The health of Carson Wentz is going to determine the Eagles season. Shocker, I know. Nick Foles is no longer on the sidelines waiting to save the city of Philadelphia. Rather, it is Josh McCown, off a quick stint at ESPN as an analyst. Still, The Eagles extended Wentz for four years through 2024. The Birds team has made two deep playoff runs the past two seasons and a third is ahead of them.

The core of Philly is solid and top in the NFC. PFF ranks the Eagles offensive line as #1 in the NFL. It is crucial they play at this level to keep Wentz upright. Jordan Howard can benefit the most out of this and make the offense even more explosive. Last season, the Eagles struggled to establish the run behind a backfield carousel. With Howard’s ability to run between the tackles, look for the play-action to be used frequently. Miles Sanders, rookie, and Darren Sproles are key compliments that will be a change of pace and a threat out of the backfield in the passing game.

There are plenty of weapons at WR and TE for Wentz. New additions in DeSean Jackson and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside provide the depth missing last season. Jackson will provide the deep ball threat that the Eagles have been lacking. Defenses will have to adjust with an extra safety over the top, leaving more room underneath. Alshon Jeffery and Zach Ertz look to benefit from this extra space.

The top unit of Philly is the defensive line. Once again, PFF ranks the Eagles D-Line as #1 and for good reason. It brings opponents nightmares with the overall talent and depth. Adding Malik Jackson alongside Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham and Derek Barnett will create havoc. Vinny Curry and Tim Jernigan as depth will keep the havoc going no matter what combination is on the field. Their play can help offset the weaker set of linebackers and secondary. The linebacker depth can be a cause for concern if any starter were to go down. The secondary has depth, but the talent is not overwhelming. Malcom Jenkins is entering his 11th NFL season overall and is the leader of this defense.

According to Vegas, this schedule sets up for double digits wins. The Eagles win total is set at 10.5 and it is the highest listed in the NFC (Rams and Saints are listed at 10). They draw the NFC North and AFC East as the conference opponents for this season. Therefore, two games to circle on the schedule are Week 6 and 11. In Week 6, the Eagles will travel to Minnesota for the first time since winning the Superbowl there. Then in Week 11, it will be a rematch of Super Bowl 52 in Philadelphia. Additionally, they have four prime-time games (3 SNF, 1 MNF) on top of those two. Expect a 12-win season from the Birds and to be NFC East Champs. Securing the #1 seed in the NFC for the playoffs will be key. The home field advantage in Philadelphia was proven two seasons ago.
