It was a busy offseason for the Oakland Raiders as they made headlines on acquiring Antonio Brown from the Pittsburgh Steelers, followed by big signings of Trent Brown and Tyrell Williams. Some notable signings that could be big are just some players with notable names like Vontaze Burfict and Richie Incognito. To say the less, it will be an interesting locker room for the Raiders.

This year could be a make or break year for quarterback Derek Carr as he finally has weapons to throw to with Brown, Williams, J.J. Nelson and Hunter Renfrow. The offensive line slightly improved with Trent Brown and Incognito, and the running back group will be interesting to watch with Josh Jacobs, Doug Martin and Jalen Richards. Jacobs could be highly used in Jon Gruden’s offense, so the success of the offense could rely on him. I think this offense will be up and down, but I think we will have some questions about Carr and Gruden.

The defense is getting better, but is very young. The Clelin Ferrell pick was a surprise, but I don’t dislike it. I’m a Clemson fan and watching majority of their games, Raiders fans will love Ferrell’s production. The secondary improved dramatically with Johnathan Abram and Trayvon Mullen, so Raiders fans have something to look forward too, but there’s still holes in the defense. The linebacking core for the Raiders and the rest of the defensive line could lack in production.

The expectations for the Raiders shouldn’t be high, especially with them being in a tough division and a tough schedule. The Raiders have a lot of young talent that is going to show a lot of potential this year, but I don’t think they will get over the hump just yet. The Raiders have some pieces but are still a long way from being a serious playoff contender. A last place finish should be expected for the Raiders, but they should be a blast to watch on HBO’s Hard Knocks.
