In the 2018 NBA draft the Dallas Mavericks have chosen Slovenian forward/guard Luka Doncic as their number three pick in the first round. This past Monday on Doncic took home the Rookie of the Year award over rookies Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks and Deandre Ayton from the Phoenix Suns after an incredible rookie season with the Mavericks. Luka captivated and wowed basketball fans from all around the world, with his spectacular ball handling, deep shooting range, and ability to create shots for his teammates. Furthermore, after acquiring forward Kristaps Porzingis from the New York Knicks, via trade for Dennis Smith Jr., Deandre Jordan, and Wesley Matthews and two future first round picks, basketball fans envisioned what the future will be like for the Dallas Mavericks franchise.

Doncic has shown flashes of superstar potential in his first year as a Maverick, and Porzingis has turned Knicks fans into believers with his stint with New York, that would ultimately come to a halt. The Knicks forward was reported disgruntled with the way the organization was headed, so he requested a trade. Porzingis is put in a position to flourish with the Mavs and to grow with a young core of players who are looking to win now. Porzingis seems committed to signing with the Mavericks this offseason and are reportedly looking to keep their versatile forward on a long term deal of 5 years ,158 million dollar contract.

After undergoing a knee injury, Porzingis sat out the 2018-2019 NBA season to rehab and recovery so that he could get back to full strength to compete again. Doncic, a slasher with great shooting range, and knows how to facilitate the ball, we could see one of the best duos the NBA has ever seen. When Porzingis gets healthy and suits up this upcoming NBA season, we could witness two young phenoms contending for multiple championships. It’s an exciting time for basketball. The Dallas Mavericks are expected to take a step forward next year with Luka Doncic running the offense and lots of fresh new legs to start the rebuild of the Mavericks organization.
